Dora Mendez

Red apple, Plum, and Caramel

Sale price$17.00

We're so pleased to bring back one of our returning coffees, Dora Mendez! We feel very fortunate to have bought this coffee through our friends at Langdon and Cedro Alto since the first year it was imported to the UK in 2020. It is without a doubt one of the coffees we most look forward to and it always delivers!

This coffee was produced by Doralid Mendez and was brought to us with the help of Cedro Alto. Cedro Alto are not importers, traders, brokers, exporters or "coyotes". They are a vertically integrated organisation made up of many small-scale coffee farmers that could never have direct access to roasters willing to pay fair prices for their microlots independently. They have banded together and enlisted the help of some non-farmers to challenge the traditional supply chain, reorganising the coffee trade in a way that encourages progress for the community and quality coffee for the world.

Perfect for the season, we're getting very autumnal notes, such as crisp red apple, caramel, and nougat.

Dora Mendez

Doralid Mendez

Dora manages her farm (as well as her father’s and brother’) where she lives with her husband and sister. Situated through dense forest is the elevated farm, higher than Ben Nevis(!) which is a challenging walk - of course Dora who we are told has superhuman like stamina manages with perceived ease.

It is a monumental task to pick and process her Castillo trees, so Dora has decided only to produce speciality upon request, pre-harvest. The risk of producing and not being able to sell the finished product is simply too much.

Huila, Colombia

La Plata is a town and municipality in the Huila Department, Colombia. Regularly producing Cup of Excellence-winning lots, the municipality received 'Denomination of Origin' status which recognises the coffee from this area to have unique, location-specific characteristics.

Washed

Dora has recently bought and built her own wet mill, which was operational this harvest. A huge feat and one that will allow her more control over the processing of her coffee.

Still working alongside export partners Cedro Alto, a vertically integrated organisation of small-scale coffee farmers, has allowed her to focus on making fantastically clean coffee. They have banded together and enlisted the help of some non-farmers to challenge the traditional supply chain, reorganising the coffee trade in a way that encourages progress for the community.
