Produced by: Café Granja La Esperanza

The story of Café Granja La Esperanza began in 1930, when Israel Correa and Carmen Rosa Vega settled in Valle del Cauca and founded Potosí farm. Like many families of the time, their children grew up working the land, and in 1945 new varieties like Yellow Bourbon, Red Bourbon, and Caturra were planted alongside the traditional Typica. Among their eleven children, Rigoberto and Luis developed a passion for coffee, steering production towards organics in the late 1990s and later expanding with La Esperanza farm. A turning point came in 2008, when Don Rigoberto won Best Coffee of Panama with a Geisha from Boquete, inspiring him to bring the variety back to Colombia. Today, four farms—Cerro Azul, Las Margaritas, La Esperanza, and Potosí—make up Granja La Esperanza, renowned worldwide for pairing innovative processing with exceptional varieties to create competition-winning coffees.

Colombia

Tucked between the towering Andes and the Pacific coast, Valle del Cauca is one of Colombia’s most dynamic coffee regions. The combination of fertile volcanic soils, steady rainfall, and high-altitude microclimates creates ideal conditions for producing complex, fruit-forward coffees. While the area has long been known for its rich agricultural output, a new wave of producers are pushing quality to the forefront, experimenting with processing methods like naturals and honeys that bring an extra layer of vibrancy and character to the cup.

Natural

The coffee for Sweet Valley is grown at La Esperanza farm and carefully processed on site at the estate’s main mill. After harvesting, the ripe cherries are placed into temperature-controlled tanks for a 15-hour fermentation, a step that develops the coffee’s distinctive fruit-forward character. Once complete, the coffee is gently dried in a mechanical dehumidifier for around 72 hours, ensuring consistency and preserving delicate flavours. When the beans reach their ideal moisture level, they’re dehulled, graded, and bagged with precision, ready to make their journey from the Valle del Cauca to our roastery.

Learn More About The Mission

The Maclean Brothers rowed 9,000 miles, non-stop and unsupported, across the Atlantic on a mission to raise £1,000,000 for clean water in Madagascar. Through severe weather, battling unforgiving currents and almost losing Lachlan overboard, the brothers arrived in Australia after 139 days at sea.
